Charles Chaboillez journal, 1797 Aug. 4-1798 June 21.

Photocopies of a journal (71 pages, in English) of Chaboillez, North West Company fur trader headquartered at the junction of the Pembina River and Red River of the North (at the northwest corner of present-day Minnesota). Contains detailed information on his trade with the Ojibwe Indians ("Chippewa" used in journal) in the area and an account of a trip from Grand Portage (Minn.) to his trading fort. Includes several pages of miscellaneous accounts, lists of merchandise traded with the Indians, and a draft of a letter probably written to his fellow North West Company partners. Filed with the diary are photocopies of the published version.
